Background to the Sydney Brain Tumour Clinic
The Sydney Brain Tumour Clinic was established in 2013 by A/Prof Michael Back to provide a seamless service for patients dealing with a brain tumour to seek further advice on their management and care. Initially based at the North Shore Medical Centre in St Leonards the Sydney Brain Tumour Clinic provides a personalised resource to guide patients on their journey.
Michael is a Radiation Oncologist who has been subspecialising in the management of brain tumours for almost 30 years. He has been active in developing and expanding multidisciplinary neuro-oncology services in major university teaching hospitals with- in NSW and South East Asia. With a strong emphasis on patient centred care and empowerment though information provision, he has generated a large clinical practice encompassing latest evidence based care, technology, research and clinical trials.
In August 2021 the Sydney Brain Tumour Clinic was expanded and moved to a new home at the Genesis Care North Shore Campus Integrated Cancer Centre. This dedicated clinic concentrates resources for management of brain tumours, collaborating with multiple referring neurosurgeons across NSW and with the potential for subsequent cancer treatment to be delivered closer to home at selected GenesisCare sites.
Through the Sydney Brain Tumour Clinic, Michael aims to deliver that personalised care to patients affected by this illness.
